Re: Staying Warm When Hunting
I grew up skiing and hunting in upstate NY and then spent a few years in the Army. The best combination of clothing I've found for staying warm are:
Feet:
Polypropylene Sock Liners (Thin), Wool Army Socks, Thinsulate/Goretek Boots.
Hands:
Thermax Glove Liners, Leather Army gloves with wool inserts.
Body:
Thin Thermal Underwear, Thick Polypropylene underwear, Outer Thinsulate/Goretek Shell
When it gets below 10-15F, pocket hand warmers are a must.
Some of the things you'll want to do before going out is ensure that you are adequately hydrated (drink a lot of water the day before), avoid caffeine/nicotine the day of... and if you can tolerate it, take a bag of really hot/spicy jerky or peanuts or some other type of snack food. The spices will get a little bit of an endorphin rush going on...
