I dont like the Bow Stop my trailer currently has. The double roller deal is nice letting the boat off the trailer, but depending on the tide can be a real pain in the butt putting it back on the trailer and also depending on the ramp. Not to mention those black rollers always scuff and leave black marks on the boat no matter how nice you are pulling it up on the winch.

I attached a picture of my current setup, can anyone tell from looking if I will be able to have just the 4 inch Stoltz bow roller by itself on this, or will I need to get some other sort of bracket to make that work. My other option is leave the setup the way it is, and just get two of those 4 inch stoltz bow rollers stops and see how that works.

Re: Bow Stop

Stoltz polyurethane (or even those less expensive yellow polyvinyl, like from TieDown or SeaSense) rollers will prevent the black scuff marks, but they won't change the way the boat loads.

Kinda hard to see in the pic, but I assume your winch strap goes between the two rollers like it should, and that the bow eye is between the two rollers when all winched up?

Maybe some more close up pics and more detail on what the trouble is?

I don't know what to tell you about getting rid of the double rollers, or even if its a good idea I only have one roller like what you want but the trailer designers/engineers must have had something in mind when they designed it...

But, being the backwoods engineer that I am I don't see why I couldn't fab up a new single roller or maybe one of those V type boots type mount, how handy are you? or are you looking to purchase a new stand and mount it on your trailer?

Re: Bow Stop

Here are some better pictures of the current set up. Looks like I would have to put the boat in the water to mount a single Roller type stop without the double bracket on there. the bow eye sits flush right where that single roller would need to be mounted...Thoughts?

Re: Bow Stop

you could just cut off the lower roller, but you would need to box the main support brackets together to get the strength back so your upper roller doesn't collapse

Know a welder?

Re: Bow Stop

Still not clear to me exactly what the problem is.

Question: does that double bracket "rotate" around the bolts that hold it on? Is that the cause of the problem? Looks to me like a throughbolt in the lower set of holes on the double bracket would greatly limit that range of motion.

Re: Bow Stop

Yes it rotates, it is supposed to. Which makes it nice letting the boat slide off the trailer. But coming back on it can be a pain depending on the steepness of the ramp and the tide.

Re: Bow Stop

Here is what I went with. Kept the original dual bow roller setup because it was easier, and it should be fine launching and loading.

Installed a new heavy duty winch strap. The bolt holding the old strap was bent to crap! Also tightened down the winch post and re-did the safety chains to the truck and to the boat.

Re: Bow Stop

I know your original strap was ran the same way as the new but... Might want to try to run that winch strap the other way. Having the strap come out on the bottom... might be a better fit? Something about it doesn't look right to me. But as long as its functional, i suppose it's good to go.

Re: Bow Stop

Looks good to me, you want the winch to snug the bow eye up to the bottom of the top roller.
If you undersling the strap, the bow eye wont want to go up to the upper roller.

Re: Bow Stop

What is the weight rating on the safety chain and the clips you used? It look kind of small.

Re: Bow Stop

I have a similer setup on my ez loader trailer mine has problems loading and unloading, the first time i launched the boat after the purchase i could not get the boat to come off the trailer and had to remove the bottom roller to let the boat go. I am also thinking about a new setup or reworking it somehow. I did adjust everything so the bow eye would fit better between the two rollers, it comes off no problem but getting it back on i fight the bottom roller with the bow eye. I was thinking the same thing you originally wanted to do with the 1 roller setup. I know i have to figure something out soon.

When I unload I have to loosen the strap a foot or 2 before backing into the water. It clears the bow stop because the back of the boat isn't floating. When loading I stop a foot or 2 short of the bow stops ... when I pull out of the water I pull it the rest of the way up.
