I have a kawasaki 550 1991 stand up jet ski. I have a done some research and I know its a 2 stroke but there is cap that looks like a oil cap on a large metal blocked that is attached to the crankcase. I don't know if I need to put oil in it. Every where I have looked says that you don't put any oil in it, but it sure looks like you do. any ideas why this cap would be there. it looks like it goes into a transmission not sure. My manual is in the mail, but I want to get started.

thanks for your help

most likely you're talking about the inspection port on the flywheel cover. No oil goes in there. If it's a little rusty in there you can spray some wd40 but it is not necessary.

what you see in that hole is the flywheel, it has teeth on the outer ring for the starter to engage.
