The manufacturers gave you the next best thing with the trim feature on both I/O's and outboards. The change in angle increases the pitch and increases speed accordingly. On I/O's, Since it was already used to raise the prop for trailering, and to fix fouling issues, but did not allow the engine to be on in the old days, they engineered to keep the drive shaft connected with trim and power. With outboards, it just really needed to have a power unit to trim on the fly. The 70mph bass boat was born.
