To get more speed, you'll have to go stainless. I'd stick with that pitch, depending on the style and number of blades. If you go down to a 15 aluminum, you'll get more RPMs and about the same speed. If you go up to a 19 aluminum, you'll be lugging the motor to death. You kinda almost already are. Where is the antiventilation plate in relation to the bottom of the boat? Even is normal. Up a hole for speed, down a hole for dig.

Most aluminum props are generic for general-purpose duty. You need a specialty prop. That pretty much means stainless. IMHO, Merc has the best and biggest variety and you can get a hub kit to fit your motor. I'd consider a hole up on the transom with a Laser prop. Only question is 16 or 17. Not sure if both are available. Unfortunately there's only so much you can do for a riveted aluminum hull.

First off make sure your engine is tuned up and running 100% first. A 115hp on a 1750 tyee should be running in the low 40mph range on GPS with a stock aluminum prop. My parents have a 1750tyee with a new 115 suzuki 4 stroke which runs 43mph and ran 35mph with a 70hp suzuki 4 stroke and my grandpa has a 1750tyee with a 130 yamaha 2 stroke (with 2000+ hours on it) which runs 47mph with an aluminum prop. Your Looper (based on the 14x17 prop) V4 is probibly one of the strongest 115's around should have no trouble spinning that 14x17 prop. If you have a crossflow V4 then the 14x17 is too big in diameter for that engine.

I have a 17.5' skeeter with a 1996 115 johnson fast strike. I have found that raker props work best for hole shot, top end and fuel economy. I am currently running 50 to 53 mph at 6000 rpms on a 22 pitch prop (no jack plate). I would think you could run in the high forties with the right prop.

Do you have tilt and trim? Are you using it properly? you should turn higher rpms with that low pitch prop. (just an opinion I am no expert)

Tilt is not used when running you boat, just common terminology. (for me anyway). Maybe you can find a dealer that will let you try different props. I would start with a 13 1/4 x 17 raker and see if it gets your rpms up. trimmed out you want to be a little above 5500. By the way, how heavy is your boat with you, gear, motor etc.?

Big difference between a fiberglass bass boat and a Rivited Deep Vee aluminum as far as speed is concern. Low 40's is where he should be with a 115. Since you just got the boat I would install new spark plugs, clean the carbs, do a "link n' sinc", then worry about the prop.
