Evinrude 6hp on 16 feet pontoon

Hi all,

I'm running a small pontoon 16' with my 1976 evinrude 6hp with standard prop (8x7 i think), but, i'm scared about logging my motor, i'm looking for a lesser pitch prop but dont find that kind of prop.

Is there a danger for my engine with the standard prop ?

I know there is a 8x6 factory prop out there, but they are hard to find. I'm also in the same situation with my 77 6hp evinrude with a 8x7 prop. I use mine on a little 12foot boat and with 3 people on board my 6hp will start to overheat after a few minutes LUGGING at WOT since it doesn't even come close to plane with more than one person. I believe 8x6 8x7 and 8x8 were factory props avalible.

after looking around on the web there are a few 8x6 1/2 aftermarket props around. Stock is a 8x7 1/4.

Do you think the difference between 8x6 1/2 and 8x71/4 will be notable? Thanks for tour input.

Any other advices ?

Definatly help out quite a bit with your setup. Thats a pretty big toon' for a 6hp to push around.My little boat with 3 people tops about around 9mph when its lugging, alone it goes 14mph and can push me around all day without overheating.

Finally, found a 8 1/4x5 on eBay, brand new, $10, just have to wait ice to melt here in Qu?bec...

That prop is ideal for the little Evinrude, we use the pontoon to carry sand / earth from shore to our island in the middle of the lake... four full wheelbarrow on the pontoon...
