I have a Michigan wheel bronze prop with the numbers AC 1562 S stamped on it. I did a google search but can`t find anything about it. It`s on a Merc mark 58a.Would like to find a link or specification for this prop.

Hi. As always, I’m intrigued by all things propeller related. What engine or drive is this fitted to ? She’s an unusual one. Looks to be hard splined onto the shaft at least.

It was on my Kiekhaefer Mercury 1959 Mark 58 A 45HP outboard. It is 9 7/8 dia. with 11 splines. It`s not rare , I just can`t find any published information on it. I sent an email to Detroit wheel customer service but haven`t heard back from them yet.

A fellow member on another forum suggest that it may be stamped wrong, and I agree. It should read as AJC 562 S. It is described in the old Michigan prop catalog as; two blade bronze with 11 spline,10 1/4 dia, 11 " pitch. Haven`t heard back from Detroit Wheel.

There is a substantial difference in the Pitch between the two props.

I see a concentric line around the drive spline and on the other end a flange that could represent the other end of a rubber slip hub which was normal for Michigan bronze wheels of the day...I had one on a 25 Wizard (Western Auto engine built by Mercury).

I agree that the two props are different in pitch and possibly some "rake" and progressive pitch on the one on the right.

Karl apparently subscribed to the fact that the fewest blades were the most efficient even though they were the worst pushers when hooked to a load. Vibration was the highest with 2 blades, but when run on a hydroplane with a Quicksilver lower unit at 10k rpms it was a moot point. I think His first production 3 blades were the Mercury 1000, Phantom Black color introduction, first production 100 hp outboard with a 3 blade aluminum prop.
