As for cable lengths, figure out where you want the helm controls...mark that spot, then measure down the gunwhale to the transom and over to the outboard. That's your rough cable length. I've used an old garden hose to get the length...lay the hose exactly where you want to route the cable...mark beginning and end points and measure away. Cable prices depend on what your outboard requires.

call iboats, they have the system. you need the kit, that should include helm and cable, you need the motor link arm. your motor should have the tilt tube for the steering rod, if not you need the conversion kit.

you will need Mariner control, it will have shift and throttle cables. they basically measure the same.

Ok so the tilt tube is for if you want to be able to trim the motor up and down on the fly?

Re: Boat conversion to stick steer help

Stingertrey, I am in the same boat as you. I also have a 14ft Jon Boat that I want to convert to steer and control. The guys here said stick steer, and I don't believe the tilt that was mentioned was for tilting the motor. I will look on this site for my motor and if I can find the right place I will try to relay it to you. Good luck.
