Trying to get into the boating world, need help!

Seems a bit confusing...I went to https://parks.ny.gov/recreation/boat...y-courses.aspx and they say that USPS and USCGA are approved courses.

Sure is cornfusing. The page you referenced has been updated since the last time I visited it. However, the FAQ link on the same page was NOT updated, and THAT page has the original wording that says that USCG and PS certificates cannot be exchanged for a NYS certificate.

If you take a course from anybody in NY they should be up to date and provide the proper documentation. Just verify it beforehand.

MOST IMPORTANT for newbies buying their first boat - you need the course right away - no grace period.
