Is anyone using one of these
232-tsp1dp_0.jpg

I see my motor mounts are chewing into the aluminum plating
on the transom. Also the top of the transom is taking a beating as well.
Just wondering if anyone has used one of these and would like to share their opinion

Ought to work. Expect the engine to chew into the metal especially when the engine is small as yours and not through bolted to the transom. They make rubber pads for insertion between the engine mount and transom. Check on here or other marine supply houses. If you use that one ensure that you seal where you put the screws to mount it to prevent water from entering the top of your transom. 3M makes a good marine sealer....5200 I think, not sure.....ask the sales person.

I've had them on my last 2 boats, and my '66 came with something similar.

Nice strong cast aluminum piece.
If nothing else, it protects the aluminum or wood from the mounting bolts.

It looks to me like something you would put on top of the transom before you sat the engine on it. No bolts up there.

That particular transom pad model is for a bolt through set up, not clamp on outboards. The pic below is an example of of pads made for clamp ons.

Thanks for the replies, always great info on this site.

I'd prefer something that doesn't have to be screwed on (it's a new boat)
But have to consider all suggestions as I have to do something, trailer and boat are pretty light and bounce around pretty good
especially on the remote roads I use. Top of transom and inside are the big problem.

I can't seem to find what Texasmark is referring to, can anyone provide a link as I'm unsure what this is.

Does your motor have lower bolts that go though the transom? If not you'll loose your motor to ole Davey Jones locker is you put something between the clamp feet and transom that isn't secured to the transom.

Almost BTDT. Back in the '50's I was running tiller controlled "teen HP" engines on alum boats where everything that touched the engine was alum. I'd tighten the clamp brackets down as tight as I could but the engines would still wiggle up and if left unchecked.....bye bye.

That clamp is for the top of the transom to keep the engine from biting into wood if no covering is otherwise provided, not for the clamp bracket.....unless you bolted it to the transom where the clamp brackets were below it and had to come up and across it for you to loose the motor. But why do that when the proper adapter, like Watermann pointed out, is available.
