Just installed new water pump in my '87 DT-85. Now the shift rod is not shifting right in lower unit. We checked gear position, shift arm position at block, dropped lower unit and reinstalled several times. We unhooked shift control at block and shifted manually, same thing. Shift into FORWARD, prop spins but loud clicking sound in case. REVERSE doesn't seem to engage. NEUTRAL seems ok.
Apparently something got messed up in gear case, but it was a very straightforward pump replacement.
Is there a way to adjust the shift rod in the lower unit without having to pull the prop and start pulling out gears???
