Sorry to ask such an obvious question but looking on the web I can't determine if VMAX means 4 stroke. It seems to mean hot rod motor. I'm considering looking at a 2008 200 VMAX. Its in another town so I havent' seen it yet. If its 2 stroke is it DFI?

I wish I had that. I am looking at an add for it on CL so no s/n but if I look at new VMAX they are all 4 stroke. If VMAX means 4 stroke then its easy. But from your comment about needing s/n VMAX must not be much more than a catchy branding scheme. I'll try more googling or binnign

The VMAX nomenclature (Yamaha’s perfomance series) has been around for a while.

Don’t know how long the VMAX 4 stroke has been out, but there where a ton of VMAX 2 strokes sold

tks Capt Dingbat, I suspected as much. This one since it was 02 was probably a 2 stroke. Are there any cowl markings that tell its a 4 stroke w/o s/ns etc? Probably a good motor with 700 hrs but if I want a 4 stroke then outa luck.

you said 2008 and now 2002, which is it?
and I did not ask for a serial #, just the model.
something like VX200 with some other letters after
maybe TLRA if it is a 2002

If it was a 4 stroke it should have a VF in front

Vmax is just a marketing term. Sounds cool. Sounds exciting. Like HO or SHO.

It used to apply mostly to bass boat type of motors, with a 20" shaft length, but that is no longer true.

There are Vmax two stroke carbureted motors, Vmax two stroke EFI motors, Vmax two stroke HPDI motors and Vmax four stroke motors. If and when Yamaha offers a gas turbine model there will be a Vmax version of it. With bold new graphics on the cowl. Making folks want one.

It was 2 stroke.
Fortunately for me the boat sold. It was a nice looking rig but at this point in time if I'm going to upgrade then I should go 4 stroke. yeah, these marketing gee whiz things are annoying.
