I have a dt55 that will start with one fuel pump but wouldnt run.had a spare pump and I put that on and it will run perfect but if you let it sit a day it won't start unless you put the other fuel pump back on .

I took the pump that will start it apart and it had a tear in the diaphram and a spring inside. I took the other pump apart and there is no spring and the diaphram is like a harder plastic.

I ordered a repair kit but it looks like it's hard plastic.

Is there different diaphrams for different years ?
Anyone ever have problem like this?
I'll post pictures tomorrow .

a carberated motor should not need to fuel pump to start, just need to pump bowls full with the primer bulb

Or is this a fuel injected motor?

no one knows what motor you have but you

I said it's a dt55 lol. Anyways I seem to have fixed the problem by just putting the spring in the pump that didn't have one .it starts now going to try in water tomorrow

I looked and it seems they never made a DT55 that was not carbed.
they made the DT55 from 1985 to 1997 with lots of model designations
maybe they made them even longer but this is the only info I found
http://www.brownspoint.com/store/pc/suzuki/dt55.asp

Still if you pump the primer bulb till firm,
the motor should start as the pump only pumps fuel when the motor is running. I do not see how the pump not pumping properly would keep the motor from starting as the carbs will have fuel in them already from priming

I have no idea what year the motor is. But took it out for a run today and it runs perfect now .I guess the previous owner lost the spring out of the fuel pump
