Hi,

I have a Volvo Penta 2003 on my sailboat that was working just OK. Suddenly, after around 3 hours running normally at 2000 RPM, I noticed that the RPM meter was marking about 1500 RPM, despite that it was running at its usual 2000 RPM (my ear is quite accustomed to know just by hearing it because its the normal cruising speed), a few minutes later 1000...800... 500 and finally the instrument panel blacked out, while the engine continued to run normally.

After arriving at harbor, the motor will not start again. The instrument panel is dead, despite the battery´s are good, the connections seem all OK, fusses are OK, switches OK....

Any ideas, tips, recommendations, things I should check? Any help appreciated.

I think I would start at the key switch. Check that power is getting to it, if so, check that power is coming from it.....if not there’s the problem.....

I’d be looking towards main cables. In particular around the alternator. Check all the earths.
