Volvo SX-M lower unit compatibility with omc?

I have an 02 glastron with a 3.0 volvo and sx-m outdrive. My lower unit is great except the case is cracked... i found a later 90's omc cobra lower unit for $100 and am wondering if there's a way to make them work, as I know many parts are interchangeable between the volvo and omc after 1994. or what other options do I have, other that paying 1500$ for a used sx-m lower unit.

You would have to look at an OMC parts manual (Crowley marine and BRP have them on line) and a Volvo parts manual (online here at iboats) and see if the parts numbers are the same. Only way to tell.
