  • Loss of power above 2500 rpm

    I have a 1999 fourwinns 245 with a 5.7 sx Volvo penta system
With a full boat I can no longer get up on plane. It seams to starve for fuel. If it was a car I would look for a restricted filter.
i have replaced the fuel flow valve, high pressure fuel pump, checked timing.
until approx 2500 rpm it seems to work fine but dosen't have the torque to pull the boat up on plane
    any suggestions

What model engine? You said you changed high pressure pump so is it a 5.7 Gsi or Gxi a throttle body engine? Any beeping sound like it's in protect mode?

Plugged exhaust will cause the same symptoms.

Ran across a similar issue twice this summer, two different boats. Got ahold of Volvo, directly they had me checking all kinds of different stuff. Finally I simply changed the sparkplugs, the problem went away. The plugs I removed looked fine though. For the 2'd boat, I just went directly to the plugs. Done!
If ya can't fix it with a hammer,ya got yourself an electrical problem.

              What motor

              What is your fuel pressure?

              What does Rinda tell you?

                I'm new at this
it is a throttle body injection
i am in nj and the boat is now winterized
I'm trying to get an idea for the spring
I have done nothing with the injectors - they are original

Good common cause of this is the pick up from the tank getting clogged. Gets worse the more throttle applied with the suction increase. Have a look. Likely the bottom of your tank is crappy.

I have checked fuel line pick up in tank - clean nothing on the screen and changed the fuel back flow valve.
i will need to recheck the high and low pressure in the spring
