I picked up this Firestone Outboard at a garage sale and am interested in trying to restore it. Where can I find an operators manual and/or a parts manual? Also, how can I tell the year it was made. It has a "463" stamped on one side of the shaft, and "1881" stamped on the other. The carburetor also has a stamp marked AJ16A. It has a few dings, but otherwise seems in pretty good shape. It definitely has spark and compression, but I haven't actually haven't tried to actually start it.

If it really is a model 463, that is a 1946. You can't put much faith in numbers on the parts because Scott's custom was to prefix the part number with the model that the particular part was first used on.

A 463 would have a four-bolt cylinder head. Later (48) would have a six-bolt head.

another newbie land-lubber here. I just acquired an "old" Firestone outboard # E 463 61542 , this is off the starboard side of the water outlet housing just under the motor. The motor was a bit tight; so, I removed the plug and spayed a bit of WD-40 in the cylinder and worked the flywheel back and forth a few times and it freed up. Sadly, the fuel tank is full of pin holes on the top area. What I'd like to know is if there a proven method of restoring the interior of the tank with some sort of coating. I see some products online but I'm curious if anyone has tried such a method and had it work. Here are a couple photo's for now, I'll put up a few more after I pull the tank . . . Thanks in advance!
