Had dry rot stringers that are repaired, I placed the motor back in and started to install the outdrive but to won’t go in all the way. It comes to a hard stop 3/8” from seating. I don’t remember seeing dry rot at the transom but I’m thinking that I tightened those bolts and squeezed 3/8” of dry rot now the outdrive coupling shaft is too long. I did double check the P/N on the coupling and it is correct. Thoughts?

Checked the transom everything looks good. I can’t figure out why the outdrive won’t go in all the way.

A little easier - What powers your boat. Mercruiser, Volvo-Penta(V-P) or OMC?

Since this is an OMC Cobra, moved the thread into the OMC section.

If the transom compressed 3/8" you would see it. Moving the thread here will let the OMC guys see it and offer advice.

you had the motor out and the transom shield off.......
now after bolting the stuff in, it doesnt fit.....

did you align the motor?

if not, get the alignment bar out and align the sucker.

The shaft has 2 o-rings.
They might have too much grease on them.
The grease gets under the o-rings and lifts them up.
This can make the drive STOP going in.

As noted above, those O rings should have NO grease at all. Only motor oil.
