In another post, I asked some general questions about this motor that I'm considering buying. I talked to the seller and got more info, which raises more questions!

More specifically, the serial number is C3813864; can someone confirm the year with that number?

Also, I need a 15" short shaft for my boat, but this is a 20". Tashasdaddy mentioned that it could be used with a jack plate or transom elevator, so I looked up jack plates here on iboats. From what I could see, the ones that don't cost an arm and a leg and a left ear that would fit my application are discontinued. A number of them are for up to 40hp; or say "for V4 or V6". This is a 2 cylinder engine. I've never had to deal with this issue before so I don't really know anything about it.

I'm wondering if I could make this work. The motor is at least 3 hours away and I don't want to take a day off work and drive there for nothing. Other aspects are favorable and the seller seems knowledgeable; he says prop is nicked up. He will start it for me on muffs and I will be able to test compression too. the asking price seems in the ballpark, although a bit high, I may have a little bargaining room.

Here is a pic of my transom. Do you think I can make this work?

Thanks.

Wow, thanks. Looks simple, great detail. I couldn't believe the prices when I researched the commercial ones. Thanks for sharing it.
