I purchased a ATK Vortec long block a while back and while looking through the instal manual it says to do a valve lash adjustment after the running the engine. I was under the impression that if the lifters are hydraulic lifters then doing a second adjustment isn't necessary. Anyone have some clarify on this issue?

It's a ATK VMH4 basically a 5.7 covering the years 96 to 00.

ATK is a mass production outfit and low cost. The lifters may have been adjusted correctly or they may just be enough to get the motor running. Don't know how much time was spent doing it, or skill level doing the work. Not saying it needs to be done, but if they recommend it, might just do it to make sure
