I have a 1982 FishinSkiBarge 16' with 80 HP Merc with Quicksilver controls. There are 3 wires red, black and yellow 10-12 gauge. I was able to hook the red and yellow up they went to the tilt and trim but I do not know where the yellow one goes. The controls have the ignition swith, kill switch, tack, and tilt and trim in them. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Re: Quicksilver control wiring

I was able to get the motor to turn over a few times, I wasnt able to tell if it was firing, arms weren't long enough to watch the motor and turn the ignition key.
Thanks

Re: Quicksilver control wiring

I now have a remote starter so I can watch and it isnt firing. The motor will turn over. I am still wondering where the solid yellow wire coming from the control box goes, there is also a red and black the same gauge that I found a place for then. . This is Quicksilver controls, I dont know how to find out what model it is, it is a 1982 or 1983. If anyone has a schematic please let me know. I have the clymer manual but no luck with it.
Thanks
Raymond

Re: Quicksilver control wiring

Ray, What year is the motor? Yellow on a Merc is usually the starter solenoid, or the stator wire. On the later models the voltage regulator provides the stator wire signal on a grey wire to run the tach. On the earlier Mercs, the tach signal is a brown wire.

BTW - The controls should use every wire that the motor has, with the exception of temp gauge and/or overheat, provided the motor is equipped with these features.

Re: Quicksilver control wiring

Thanks Chris it is a 1982 80HP 6234182, the motor will turn over using the igniton switch or the remote starter I bought at Sears. there are several wires in a tubing going back to the engine. These 3 wires solid red, solid black and solid yellow were alone and not in the tubing. The red wire and the black wire went to the tilt and trim motor. I repleaced the stator, but I dont know maybe it could be a swtichbox, trigger or coils. I know that it ran before it was put up. The man that owned it passed away, I bought it from his son that didnt have a need for it. On the switchbox I got readings from the red to red/white blue to blue/blue white
Thanks for all your help
