Hello everyone, first post here. I recently got into the hobby of rebuilding small engines and have some how moved up into outboard motors. I aquired a 1982 mercury 25 HP 2 stroke tiller for the low price of free.99. After inspection I discovered that it had spark but low compression. 70 top cylinder and 30 on the lower. After removing the power head and taking it apart I found that the rings on the lower cylinder were busted but there was also what looked like light rust behind the cylinder. I had a friend tell me that it looked like it had been ran hot. My question is where can I find a power head ring and gasket kit for this engine? I have found one that requires me to bore the cylinders but I'm not looking to do that. I'm just going to hone them out. I'm looking for a complete kit here. I currently have the whole thing taken apart. Every piece separated. Anything pointing me in the right direction would be great. Thank you.

You cannot bore the cylinders on that motor because it is a chrome bore. I do not believe parts are available for that motor. Find a different powerhead.

As posted ..tis junk. Find a good used powerhead if you want to fix and use or scrap it for parts as lower units are starting to become a lil scarce

I would also add find a later powerhead. You want to find one that has a thermostat in it 86/87 and later. Those blocks have better parts availability and will bolt right to your motor.
