2002 240 EFI jet drive (essentially Optimax ) - Tachometer replacement

Posting this here as the engine is essentially a 240hp EFI two stroke optimax outboard mounted inside the hull of the boat and mated to a jetdrive.

This engine has mercury smart craft installed but I’m guessing a very early edition of it. The tachometer stopped working and I troubleshot it down to the tach itself. The new tachs seem very expensive and I’m not sure if the new styles are plug in play with the older 2002 style. Has anyone here with an outboard or jetdrive of this vintage upgraded their tach and if so what tach did you use? Also to save money are their any non smart-craft tachs that will work?

serial number?.. 240 is plain ole 2.5 2 stroke.. 250 3.0 opti..

I might be wrong about the optimax part. It’s EFI fuel injection 240.
