I'm just trying to calculate my max theoretical speed and decide if I should try and source out a different prop. I have my '84 9.8 powering a 8' MiniMax hydroplane, which only weighs about 100 lbs... with me and the motor/fuel onboard total weight is about 375 lbs. all-in.
The factory prop is 8-3/4 diameter x 8" pitch, 3-blade and due the the low weight, the motor easily reaches max WOT of 6000 rpm. Therefore theoretically, with zero slip I could go 22.7 mph, and GPS tells me I'm pretty close to that in reality (21.5 mph), so I think more prop would make me go faster.
The factory options for prop also included a 9x9 and a 9x10 (both 2-blade).
If I assume my slip is very low due the the light load (say 5% based on the theoretical 22.7 vs 21.5 actual), then the 9x10p should be able to get me going at about 27 mph instead of 21-22, so I think I'll see if I can find one of those!
Cheers
