Quadrajet won't come apart

I can't get the top plate of the quad to lift off. I removed all screws (9) and followed the manual and the walk through by Alpheus. The top plate is being held on by something in the center. I think its the spark arrestor shaft. If so, how do you remove it? I've tried just about everything.

Did you remove the 2 tiny flathead machine screws inside the front venturis (jets)?

I figured it was the spark arrestor shaft. It must be removed to take the horn off. It just took a while to get it started. That makes 10 screws holding the carb together.

MikDee, Those small, somewhat hidden screws get many folks...lol
