1996 StarCraft 2010BR w/5.7L Mercruiser/Alpha One

Engine Serial:0F789232

I'm looking to do a tune up but am having a little trouble finding the right parts. There is so many different 5.7's that I want to make sure I get the right parts. I want to do plugs, cap, wires, and any other suggested tune up parts. Next winter i'll be replacing fuel lines and a few other things when I rebuild my floor. Is there anyone that can offer some knowledge? Thanks

Re: Parts Question

The first thing you need to know is that there were six different 5.7l engines that year, 5.7L, 5.7LX, 5.7L-TBI, 5.7LX-TBI, 350TBI, 350MPI... from your serial number, you have the 5.7L. It has a 2bbl carb....

The spark plugs are NGK BR6FS. As for cap, rotor and leads, all the 5.7 (carbed engines) use the same ones.
Cap: Distributor Cap - Sierra
Rotor: Rotor & Wheel Assembly - Sierra
Lead set: (Unless the leads are damaged, these are not regular replacement items) Spark Plug Wire Set - Sierra

I would also be looking at the fuel and oil filters as regular service items.

Fuel filter: Fuel Water Separator Filter for Johnson, Evinrude, Volvo Penta, Mercruiser 35-807172, OMC Sterndrive Cobra, Mercury, Mariner, Yamaha Outboard, Fram PS3808, Tempo 170090, GLM 24941, WIX 33225 - Sierra 18-7844
Oil filter: Oil Filter for Volvo 8354409, Mercruiser 35802885Q 54111 14957 32716, OMC 173232 502902, Yamaha YSC10231200C YSC13231200C, Chris Craft 16.8108746, Pleasurecraft R0077002, Crusader 201104 - Sierra 18-7824

If you need the service-manual, let me know, I'll post a link for you.

Re: Parts Question

there's one site I use a lot to get part numbers for my 5.7l mpi; mercurymarine.com and click on launch parts catalogue, the hard part you have done, find engine serial number, and anything you're looking for is pretty much in there.

Or you could just use the links I've posted for those parts right here on iboats, where you're getting all this free information....

Re: Parts Question

thanks for the info. those are the cap and rotor I thought I needed but had no clue about the plugs. my wires look good so I will not replace those yet. I replaced fuel and oil filters when I winterized the boat. other than using stabil every time I fill up, is there a fuel system cleaner I can use one in a while? any suggestions?

thanks

Plenty of snake oils on the market if you really want to use one.. I've never used one, never will, never needed to. As long as you use fresh clean fuel, and change the fuel filters at the required intervals, you won't need a fuel system cleaner either....
