I just ran my boat the other day and I noticed that on the upper outdrive unit there is a hole behind where the sticker was on the right side of it. there used to be like a round circle of some kind behind the sticker covering this but the sticker tore and let go of it. now there is just a hole. What the heck do you call this thing so I can get another or is there somekind of suggestion as to what I can do or get to plug this up with? it looks like there is a seal there, but I am not sure that this was a half to keep all water out of area or not. To me it just seems like a bolt accsess hole that needs plugged or covered? what do you guys think?

That hole was drilled to allow for a water passage hole on the other side of the drive and then was plugged, the disc you mention is called a "welch" plug and it seals the shift cavity . without it your shift cable is shot from water entry
It should never be touched or removed.

ok. I ordered the correct welch plug to replace it with. I am not sure how it came out, because I have never touched it. It would seem that only the sticker would have been holding it in and when part of the sticker tore off in the water the plug went with it.

Do i need to tap the new one in? How does it install? I looked through my book and have not found any instructions on it. Surely the sticker isnt needed to hold it on.
