What is the difference between an "R" and "MR" Mercruiser outdrive?<br /><br />Thanks to all,

R drive. Pre-load on the drive-shaft pin with spring. Mr drive Bearing on drive shaft held with retainer and tapper bearing. Bearing held with retainer is much stronger than a spring on the top of the drive shaft.

I am not sure I follow you Vinney. Sometimes you have to talk to me like I am a child.<br /><br />What years did they make the "R" drive and a little more info would be great.<br /><br />thanks,

Got it. I didn't realize pre alpha was the same as an "R" and then Alpha one gen one was the same as "MR".

Exactly...........<br />"R", Pre-Alpha, Mod.1........<br />All Pretty Much the Same Drive.......<br /><br />"MR", Alpha 1, Alpha1 Gen.I.......<br />Same Drive.......<br /><br />Alpha1 Gen.II...........<br />A Totally Different Drive.......
