Mercruiser backlash rod length DIY?

I made a home made version of the mercruiser backlash indicator rod tool PN 91-53459. I didn't want to wait for one to arrive. Now I only need it for before & after comparison after changing out a few parts in the lower gear unit. For future use, I want to be able to compare to the specs. Would someone who has one of these tools be so kind as to measure the distance from where the edge of the drive shaft is to the I mark so I could place a mark on mine? The other marked distances may some day be helpful also. Thanks

It's for all Merc outdrives. it has 3 marks on it.

For less than 15 bucks, you can buy one.
