Is the idle set screw supposed to make hard contact witht the choke cam?

It seems like the hard friction with the screw against the cam would keep it from actuating?

How much friction should be there?
Should I adjust the Throttle cable to compensate?

I have been tyring to diagnose a hard starting condiion with a Idle 1991 Mercruiser 3.0L.

Thanks!

What kind of carb is it?
The idle screw on all the carbs i can think of, rests against the throttle body. the chock high speed idle adjust sets against the chock cam.

Yes it rests hard against the cam. When you pump the throttle for starting it is off the cam and the choke then sets to what ever position it needs. Same as stays idling high until you gun it and release the cam again.

This would be GM style carb or the mercarb.

You need to unhook the throttle cable from the carb.Set idle then adjust the cable so it puts just a slight pre-load on the cable when in the idle position.
