Hello all! New to the forum. Been using y’all’s advice for some time. I have a 1978 Checkmate Convincor mercruiser 260 with the pre alpha outdrive. I am replacing the prestolite trim pump and wondering if I can use the newer late model (low pressure high volume) pumps with the older pre alpha trim cylinders. I’ve read the answer is both ways. Would like love some concrete opinions from y’all. The price difference between the high pressure/low volume pump (Sierra 18-6768) I am “supposed” to use and a newer style is significant.

any advice would be great.

Hello WiscoDisco and :welcome:

Yes, you can use the later pump with the earlier rams on the MC1 drive (no such thing as 'pre-alpha')... You do have to remove the reverse lock valve from the hydraulic and electrical circuits though...
