Easiest way to check engine hours on a ECM555/PCM 555 equipped motor?

I found another motor that I am considering purchasing and I was wondering what is the easiest way to verify the engine hours on a ECM555/PCM 555 equipped motor? One option which I think would work is Mercruiser's VesselView Mobile, which can be bought for ~$200, but I was wondering if there's something even less expensive out there that would work? Thanks!

When I use my Quicksilver Digital Diagnostic Terminal (DDT), one of the supported functions is engine hours.

This works great on my ECM 555 / PCM 555 2000 Mercruiser Horizon MPI EFI 380hp engines.

That looks like it's a bit more than $200...

The OP was asking about systems compatible w/ ECM 555 and PCM 555 engines.

The Mercruiser Vessel View requires engines that support SmartCraft, as-shown on their web site.

My system works w/ ECM 555 / PCM 555, but not SmartCraft.

If you are considering buying an MPI engine, don't bother with cheap, buy the Diacom software. In the long run, that is the best value. Yes it's initially quite expensive, but as a diagnostics tool, it is the best value for money. And with an MPI engine you will use the software...

My apologies, I actually thought that all ECM555 equipped engines are SmartCraft capable, but I realized that this isn't necessarily true. Luckily the particular engine I am interested in *IS* SmartCraft capable, since it was made in 2005 (also confirmed with Mercruiser support), so I ended up purchasing the VesselView Mobile interface for $200. I plan on using it to verify the engine's hours, and if I decide to purchase the engine, I will install the mobile interface in my boat, otherwise I will end up selling it. While Googling stuff regarding VesselView and SmartCraft in general, I also discovered that I may need a terminator (pn# 859318T1) which of course isn't included, so I had to buy that separately.

Once I find a good replacement motor for my boat I will definitely look into purchasing diagnostic software, but that's a different topic for a different day.

Thank you all.

This table shows the ECM 555 / PCM 555 functionality that is available on the Quicksilver DDT.

Good news. Thanks for the update. Good luck.
