tach setting for 87 evinrude 175

Can anyone tell me what my tach setting should be for my 1987 evinrude 175? The boat didnt have guages in it when I bought it so I am installing all new ones



Also, am I correct to connect the grey wire coming from the remote plug to the sender, black wire to ground, purple to ignition?

Set dial to #6 pulses.

To pin down one point...... The "purple to ignition" wire should be attached to the "A" (accessory) terminal of the ignition switch so that voltage is applied to the tachometer ONLY when the key is in the ON or START position.
