1979 9.9/15 hp outboard starter string

I got frustrated trying to start my 9.9/15HP ohnson outboard this weeked, and I pulled the started string too hard or too far and now it is stuck in the all the way out position and will not recoil. Any suggestions

try leeroysramblings.com..omc..9.9/15 hp. normal repairs and maintenance..the manual starters are covered as well as a wealth of other info...before you remove the starter it's wise to bind the 2 halves of the cup together with some electrial tape or other means because the coiled spring will try to force them apart...just as info, I find it easier to remove and reinstall the starter once the flywheel has been removed, but that may just be me

i bet you broke hook at begining of spring/this hook cathes pinion bear.
heat the end of spring with torch and try to form hook using hammer and spike.
