Hey Ive tried searching everywhere for this model & it seems I may be the only one on earth who owns this little motor..lol

Ive had it a few years & its been a great runner its in mint condition but this year it was dry seized from sitting over the winter..

But a little spin of the flywheel got it going.. I then cleaned it up a bit fired it up in a 55g drum then took it to the lake where it would idle fine but would stall & bog down when trying to give it some gas

Cleaned carb out really well (no rebuild kit yet) but didnt see any major damage to any of the seals..Put new plugs in it as the originals were still in it..lol

So what the heck could it be ..? I also noticed where the fuel pump is "supposed" to be theres just the nipple with the carb suction tube going into it..

if theres no fuel pump how has this thing been running ?..lol I ran a clear tube from tank to carb to see if fuel does actually get to it & it does..

Also that red "knob" is timing right..? Or is that idle adjustment..?

Thanks
Peace

Re: 1995 3hp Evinrude

hi.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bX8FGYl6B7k

its my rebilt motor.

so, this red is timing advence mecahnizm,
slow speed needle is sticking out in front of carb, screw in jently and 1.5turn back-its for slow speed set up

fuel flows becouse gravity helps.if you dont uncrev vent screw in tank cap fuel stops flow-so remember to unscreav this smal cap,
sucktion from cylinder helps to pick up fuel from tank but gravity and no restriction flow is also important.
i would instal smal fuel filter between fuel tank and carb inlet

this motor is quite new, so do the carb cleaning without any carb kit.

Re: 1995 3hp Evinrude

Thanks for reply..!
Mine would run as well as your last year but no luck this year.. =(
I do have the original tubing & filter to go back onto the motor the clear is to just see if I cleaned out the tank well enough & to see if any junk flowed into the carb..

How do I adjust the red timing knob..? Is there a factory setting like the low speed needle..?

I always use the vent on top the fuel cap or looses the cap a bit to vent properly..

Im not sure why this dang thing is running so horribly now..

Peace

Re: 1995 3hp Evinrude

hi.
i would abvence this red one screw until timing camb moves cam folower from carb.
try to set this until engin starts vell.
i would clean carb very careful and set slow spped needle 1.5 turn out.be sure that nut around slow spped needle is screving enough to not let air to sneak in.

remember there should be:
1.fuel
2.spark
3.compresion
4.fuel/air mix-seted by slow spped needle

Well I got it running again but exactly how it ran before have to feather the choke to keep it running & cant give it any kind of revs or it dies..

Does anyone have a exploded view diagram of the carb kickin around..?

Peace..

Re: 1995 3hp Evinrude

Awesome Thanks..!!

I'm having a heck of a time trying to adjust the low speed needle cause of the packing valve & washer when I took carb apart to clean both were all mashed up
What is the purpose of that packing valve..? And why wont a normal rubber gasket work..? lol

Thanks

Re: 1995 3hp Evinrude

The purpose is to stop any air leaking around the threads and screwing up the setting. Rick.

The previous owner let the ignition module come loose and it rubbed against it. Good news tho the problems was with the high speed needle I cleaned it prolly 4-5 times but never actually shoved anything in that tiny venturie needle tube thing lastnight I got a sewing needle and wiggled it on down there and it musta cleaned out something cause she purs like a kitten again !! WOOT !

So I'm back at it 5 years later LOL same dang thing it sat for a couple years (I fogged it before & ran all gas outa it) before I shut her down for the season.. Put new fresh gas in it with some seafoam & the dang thing wont fire at all. Time to rip the carb apart again...uhhhggggg
