A couple days ago I sprayed carb cleaner into the carb and she started and was running fine. I took it out on the lake and it ran fine for about an hour and then it slowed down and died. I tried to start it up and it kept doing this sputter kind of thing. Today I took the carb off and cleaned it and replaced all parts with a rebuild kit. In the carb there was some little red rubber crap which I had hoped had been what was causing the problem. Once I put it all back together the engine still would not start and continues to make the same noise. I have included a video of my engine showing the noise that it is making. If anyone has any ideas of what I should do or try next I would greatly appreciate it.

Also I forgot to add that i checked the compression a couple weeks ago and it was at 113psi on both cylinders which is good. I am just so confused, please help. Thanks in advance.

Well, I would check the fuel pump and all the fuel lines, since you found rubber inside the carb. The fuel lines must have been replaced with the wrong kind of rubber line. Some rubber line does not like gasoline and breaks down.

hmmmmmmmmm, just saw the video. Make sure your spark plug wires aren't crossed.

Is that a maybe a "lean sneeze" I hear? I would def clean carb out and check/replace fuel lines. Have you checked for good "hot" spark?

Re: 35hp evinrude wont start. watch my video of it.

So I have now taken the fuel pump off and it was the culprit of my red rubber floating in my carb. I replaced the red gasket you see in the pics with a new gasket. I have then removed and cleaned the carb again and all fuel lines. The only thing I did not clean out is the air fuel mix valve on my carb because I did not want to remove the plugs and put the new ones in. I did however blow air through it and there is no blockage so I believe it should be fine. Also I checked for spark and that is good, In fact the plugs were a little wet with gas so gas is getting to the plugs. After all of this my engine is still coughing or has a "lean sneeze". Is there anything else that could be causing this. Please help me.. I just want to get this thing on the lake this summer.

Hi cbar. This link may help you get the carb dialed in. Once you get a decent idle in your test tank, be sure to reset the idle when you're on the water where you have more/proper exhaust back pressure.

Thank you to everyone for the help. So I decided to check the compression again and this time it came back 25 and 45 psi in the two cylinders. This totally sucks but at least I now know what the issue is. I will keep everyone updated on the repair process of that.

I'm wondering if it over heated when it died on the lake?

The last time I took it out it did not over-heat, but the time I went out before that it did. I let it sit for a little while that time and then it started right back up. I am thinking it had something to do with the overheating. today I will be pulling the head cover off. I will take pics and post updates.
