help replacing shift shaft lever on 1960 johnson 40hp

Can anyone tell me how to replace the shift shaft lever that connects to the clevis on a 1960 johnson 40 hp.

Please help!!!!

Exactly what are you trying to replace, #39?

For that, you have to remove the powerhead, and lower unit, then undo all the rubber mounts and remove the #53 exhaust housing from the outer shell. You also have to remove the outer shifter lever to get it back together.
