Hey people,
I know practically nothing about boats/motors. My in-laws boat was getting tough to steer last year and this year it is near impossible. My uncle said that it likely needs a new steering cable. Can anybody tell what I need from these two (not very good) pics? Not quite sure of the year; my father-in-law thought it might be a 1972.
Thanks

Disconnect the steering rod at the motor. Turn the steering wheel. If it got easier you do not need a steering cable. Instead grease the zirk fittings on the motor, turn the motor by hand back and forth to work the grease in, it should get easier. Remember to re connect the steering.

just in case I do need a cable, wondering if you can tell from the pics if this is a rotary cable or rack & pinion? I guess I will probably figure that out when I get there... but wondering just the same. like I said, I know nothing :D
