2 stroke johnson short shaft. Kill switch in tiller handle has stopped working. Motor still starts and runs fine, just cant shut down with it. Pulling the lanyard does nothing. Currently shutting down by pulling choke. Would the switch be bad? If it was bad wouldn't it not start at all? If so, anyone have a P/N for the part?

Re: Johnson 15 hp kill switch

You need to check for continuity of the switch. Use a standard electrical meter and check the wires coming out of the switch for resistance. When the clip is in place you should have max resistance. Pull the clip you should go to zero resistance this is continuity. If the switch works follow the wire to the ground point and make sure you have a good ground connection. Typically I have seen the wire part at the ground connection and will not shut down the motor. If you keep using the choke you will have other issues you will end up having to deal with.

Tight lines.
