Have recently purchased an 1973 OMC tachometer to match the speedo in my boat. It only has one wire going out of the tachometer which is gray. Is this normal? I was planning to wire to a powershift2 control box and a 1973 50 hp electric start Johnson. Can this be done with only the gray wire? Thanks

The gray wire is the alternator pulse wire.-------You have to supply other wires / 12 volts / ground as per a wiring diagram.

There were various OMC tachs in the early '70's. For instance some were for magneto motors, some were alternator tachs, some for the old battery CD models, and some "Universal Tachs". Point being, we don't know exactly what you have.

I was questioning what tach he has. All he said was 1973.

He also said it matches his speedo. No word if it matches his motor.

I'm lost already! It's a 73 gray Speedo with good points and we're not sure if its one gray wire matches a engine we don't have a picture of, right?
