No battery needed to run this motor.----Do not even thing about supplying 12 volts to the coils or points !!-----Ignore the party that tells you about needing a battery to run this motor.-----The battery is only needed for the electric starter.

That was my thinking. The spinning from the crank is all that’s needed. Just make sure there’s connection from the ignition coil to the flywheel/magneto, correct?

They’re are citing the fact of it having points is the reason it needs juice from a battery.

This young gun convinced the two older guys to give it a shot without the battery and whaddayaknow, cranked on up. Seems like the points were just dirty/corroded.

Thanks everyone for the help. I learned so much in regards to small engines/boat motors.

Pdean, I did*. I posted another topic (I think you have replied to) about how we got it running, but it’s having idle/throttle problems now.
