2001 Johnson 70 How To Disable QuikStart/ Fast Start for WOT Timing Procedure?

Does anyone know the procedure to disable the Advanced timing feature for the Joe Reeves timing method? My searches indicate either i need to ground or disconnect the white/black wire coming from the temp. sensor. I did both but I dont think it is being disabled because timing shows 28+ degrees while 17 degrees is max.

Any insight is appreciated. Thanks

Using the Joe reeves method, which has all the plugs out and at cranking speed with throttle/timer base fully advanced to its stop.

But nevermind any of that. I ended up being able to just run it at idle and advance the timer base by hand all the way to its stop and adjust it like that without having to disable Quikstart.
EDIT: Once the engine was warm of course, after Quikstart was not in play.

Both of these methods are good for setting the timing in a test barrel/not on the water.

Ground out the black/ white wire coming from the power pack.
