Hi - I have a 93 Johnson 3hp (made in Belgium). It is a great motor but I need the timing adjustments (big red screw on back right of motor) I know you start by threading in until lightly tight but how many turns out? If you have carb adjustment that would be great too but the timing is off I believe. I do not have the shop manual for this motor.

You will find your motor is covered by a manual on the boatinfo website,

The initial setting for the slow speed needle is 1¼ turns out from gently seated

If you also have a high speed mixture adjustment then it is 1 turn out

Hopefully this link will take you directly to the start of the section that covers your carb on page 3.18

I assume the "big red screw" you refer to is the idle speed adjustment. The idle speed should be set as low as possible while finally adjusting the idle mixture screw, Then re-adjusted to give the required idle speed

Avoid altering the ignition/carburetor synchronization screw on the cam follower if you possibly can because the plastic becomes brittle with age and is easily broken otherwise see page 2.53

Thanks! I had no idea these manuals were out there. Much appreciated. She is running like a top now.

Nicely done!. Got good advice.

If you have some cold starting issues, set the low speed adjustment slightly richer (c.clockwise) for starting, then revert back to the leaner setting for running.
