Thanks I will check it out, I like my 150 gt Johnson but fuel here in B.C is $1.20 to 1.55 a litre, some thing more fuel efficient would be nice

The Etec will be much more fuel efficient, as it is a high pressure direct injection 2 cycle motor. It is also much more complex that your current motor. I would recommend you keep up on maintenance, as small issues can get real expensive due to the specialized know-how and diagnostic tools needed to repair.

For the amount you save, it will take a long time to pay for the cost of the new engine, unless the engine was pooched and needed replacement

I'm screaming at the 82.4 cents/litre currently being charged. Oil Robber Barons. When gas was $1.30/litre, I went in to pay, and asked that if they had a Gun behind the counter, could they please point it at me. I just felt that when I'm being robbed, it should be at Gun Point

How much fuel do you use in a full season ?-----In my math it makes no sense to spend $20,000 on a motor to save say $1000 / year in fuel costs.-------If your motor is broken or you want / can afford the new motor and a no worry experience then that is different.-----Note-------The apparent high cost of gasoline is due to the taxes / litre.-----They have not gone down or have they ?

50-100$ for a 4hour round of golf is robbery also (imho) so depending on how much fishing you do we must keep things in perspective..incl a daily shot of 2-3$ coffee ($600-700 /year) and cigs at $10/day ($3650 / Year) .

i do not play golf or smoke at 8-10$ pack so 250 $ in gas/season ain't to bad for me (less expensive than coffee) , or a visit to the casino

again the price issue all depends on your needs…………….. :fish2: or :second:fishing all year long

btw I to pay same prices:canada: $1.14L today

Who said that Boating was a Cheap Sport ? Anything powered with fuel could turn costly these days, worse if being a large HP engine. E8-95 octane is $ 3.65 gal down here...

Happy Boating

In Alberta, the Taxes are less than 30 cents/litre. Considering how low Oil Prices are, the price of gas should be about 70 cents/litre, including the Taxes. Currently the average price is about $0.83/litre

And how much are folks willing to pay for water ??----Just think what a single 500ml of water goes for at some events !!-----Gasoline is cheap by comparison.

Don't think l'd like to pay $ 99.9 a litre lol

here in Tasmania ( island state of Australia ) the median petrol price in Hobart/Launceston/Devonport ( capital, large cities ) is around $ 1.55 litre,

yet in the mid east coast small towns a hundred k's plus from large cities etc the price is around $1.25- 1.32
One such town is literally a one horse joint ( pop. under 100 ) only other commercial business there is the pub lol
there has much foot stamping and dummy spitting in the media from city slickers about this intolerable situation,

l quite like it.

There I go again ----$1.00 / L---Is our local price.------50 years ago you could get a refund for the " road tax " portion on fuel put into your boat.

Thread seems to have gotten away from the utility of an E-Tec to cost of gas. I remember years ago on the C-Dory site I mentioned that gas was going to sky rocket and better to have a smaller boat. Many poo-pooed my advice before gas went thru the roof. Anyway - I buy and re-sell a few motors at times. Had some 250 E-tecs a few years ago and they were not that easy to re-sell. I am kind of scared off of them now as here up North they do not seem to be that popular and the dealer that was pushing them for years is now pushing Suzuki? Most major brands carried or do carry high technology 2 strokes for a reason. 2 strokes are what outboards were designed to be and are superior. Trouble is that the high technology 2 strokes like e-tec are too complicated and run too lean with the attendant problems associated with such. As far as I know us suckers in the West are forced to use 4 strokes because of radical environmentalism whereas the rest of the world still uses new 2 strokes.

I only used the boat for 4 months because I just got it .The prop was spinning on the hub under load but I have replaced the prop because I could not find a hub to press in. The Motor basically runs fine, hour counter says it has 375 hrs on motor if it works. 33 gallon gas tank . It is easy to work on because it is a simple motor , maybe I will keep it till I have a big problem with it . Once I get to a area with fish I use the Honda kicker anyway , so I guess I will wing it for now pay the high gas prices, gas is $130.00 today and will be a little cheaper at night , it goes up and down like a yo yo here in Vancouver. I have never bought water , almost never buy coffee anymore so I will spend it on gas and never tell the wife it costs $80.00 and up to use it for a day . It just bugs me to pay $ 5.85 a gallon .

I mean still use old school 2 strokes....I understand Yamaha makes 10 times the old school 2 strokes for worldwide distribution than the number of 4 strokes sold to the west. I know, I know, you don't like to fool with oil....that is the only advantage of a 4 stroke when you balance fuel consumption vs. acceleration. Yes, I know they are getting faster and lighter, but will never be as simple.

Gee, a 33 gal fuel capacity for that 2 smoke motor is a bit low. I have a '98 Johnny 150HPV6, and a 63 gal tank in my 21 footer. I can burn 30 gals in a single fishing trip, of say 40 miles.

Chris 1956 I guess Omc should have put a bigger tank in when they built the boat ,could be a space problem I guess . I use at least half a tank to get to a fishing spot and back .
