Fuel filter placement?

I have an 84' Evinrude 79hp
with a portable tank with no fuel filter
I just purchased one , where's the best place to put it?
before the primer bulb or after it it under the motor cowel

Usually see them near the disconnect, outside the motor itself.

What horsepower motor are we talking about? It is not a good idea to install an inline filter on larger hp motors (50hp & above) as fuel restrictions can cause problems. Better to go with a water separator setup. You need something with some capacity (for trash & water) before it retricts the system.

70hp motor
