Trust the wire colors or the length?

I have changed the CDI pack for my 3 cyl 35 hp Evinrude.

My old CDI Pack have 3 wires,
1: (A short wire, Orange/Green) went to bottom cyl.
2: (A medium wire, Orange/Purple) went to middle cyl.
3: (A long wire, Orange/Blue) want to top cyl.

According to the CDI Troubleshooting guide the above is correct.

My new CDI pack also have 3 wires
1: A short wire, Orange/Green)
2: A medium wire, Orange/Blue
3: A long wire, Orange/Purple.

I would go for the coloring codes, but it is clearly that wire 2 and 3 somehow has been swapped cause of the length. It does'nt look right.

How can I test what is right here?

Simple ----The sky is BLUE for the top cylinder.-----The grass is GREEN for the bottom cylinder.

Hook it up by color first. See if it runs well. If not call CDI and explain. In the past they were very helpful over the phone.

Thank you racerone, actually I didnt knew that one.

I have hooked it up and it runs very well even if I switch the two wires. I will try contact CDI on this one.
