1965 evinrude 6hp fisherman no water coming out of exhaust port

Just put it a new water pump, looked different than the old one but the site I got it from said it would work on this motor and all the holes lined up for the water pump housing, start it up and still no water flow from the exhaust. Pulled the thermostat housing off and the thermostat was falling apart, pulled the thermostat and poured water down both holes. The smaller hole the water came out of the exhaust hole and the bigger hole the water came out of the bottom of the motor, any ideas?

How high up is the water in your bucket / test tank ?-----What is the part # of your replacement impeller ?-----Did you get the replacement kit like used on the 79 model ?

Sounds like he got the new style pump, which should work. Yep, we need to know if it is down in the water deep enough.
