I have 2 motors the 1990 88 SPL looks as if it was getting water in a cylinder and corroded the top of the piston and started breaking apart. Apparently my rebuild didn't go so well! Anyway I picked up a 1973 115 on a boat I got for free. Just had to buy the trailer which I needed. I was wondering if I changed the timing base, stator, power packs all wiring and the remote controllers. Could the newer ignition system work on the older motor or what would be some issues I would face in doing this? I see there is a issue with choke I thinks and the safety switch. I'm I right in thinking this and what else or should I just get the correct parts for the year model of the older motor and hope I get it running. I'm just running out of financial options and the 1990 still will start it just sounds like hell and I know that ignition system works.
Thanks

It probably would work if all that stuff actually physically fits the old motor. But that certainly seems improbable. But I haven't tried it either.
