While waiting for the machine shop to get their finger out, I've been playing with the parts some more. I'd really prefer to have the primer working on the finished project vs flappy chokes so I took a good look at the carbies from both motors.

The carbs form the '79 140 appear to be a lot more basic than those from the '82 90 - missing a few casting features and brass tubes in the venturi boosters. Probably amounts to an efficiency improvement on the later carbies, but I need to use the proper ones from the 140.

Here's the primer nipple on the 90 carb. Looks like the nipple would pop out with a suitable drift from the back side (or not?).

Here's the 140 carb. The 'hole' you can see is a blind casting, about 1/8" lower than where the primer outlet would need to be. I think grinding the flange at a 45 to provide a place to drill, then get the right angle to exit just above the blind casting hole. Can't see that there'd be anything in there to hit during this machining.

I've tested all the bypass valves and the primer solenoid valve from the donor and all are working properly. (Yes, I have maybe too much time on my hands since I got laid off...)

You can drill em ,have done a bunch and a small drift will knock out nipple.

Thanks for that. I was thinking I'd mount the primer solenoid in place of the choke solenoid up on the silencer too. The OE hose routing under the bottom carb always made disconnecting the shift pin a royal PITA.

I'm thinking about using Tygon hose to re-plumb the primer and the bypass lines. Much thinner than rubber hose. Thoughts?

Did it. No flappy choke plates. Carbs all clean and ready to go on once I get the block back.
