70, 35 HP Chrysler, Maintenance Tips & Precautions toward Cable Steering & Controls

70, 35 HP Chrysler, Maintenance Tips & Precautions toward Cable Steering & Control Box & cable?

1. Mechanically, I feel I can get home (with time) but I I've not experienced an emergency with either yet. Preventive Maintenance is my plan and observations but no Zerks. What steering inspections? Is the control R&R inspected?

2. My fear is how hard will it be to make the adjustments if needed if the weather changes or Etc..

3. My guess is I?ll have to mechanically perform both operations, what are my best options?

4. Steering might not be a big challenge from my rear driver?s seat, except w/o a handle. The initial response is my concern. Will the boat make a sharp right or left turn if the cable steering fails?

5. Our Fishing Rules: Respecting the weather, No fishing alone, Fish and travel with another boats at least.

Thanks in advance for your Tips & Precautions.

Re: 70, 35 HP Chrysler, Maintenance Tips & Precautions toward Cable Steering & Contr

Are there Maintenance Tips & Precautions toward Chrysler?s Cable Steering & Control Box & cables? I feel at the least there is some general lubing with oil or grease recommended that I have not found or heard of. Without Zerks I can still force oil or grease where time and wear has dictated needs (as at the motor?s tilt that is dry vs noticeable wear). I have not found internal pics of the Chrysler Control but I feel some oil or grease would help it function better. I?ll try to inspect the control box next week and move on. I have not mentioned upgrades because I feel when the boat or motor needs major repairs, I'll replace it or retire from using a boat.

Thanks for sharing in advance.
